Customization DS0253
Kits with Decimal Quantities
Problem Definition:
ACME sells Aggregate and Ready Mix, and is using Kits. Inventory is sold in tons, but GP forces the Kit item to have zero quantity decimals. ACME needs to be able to sell fractional kits, such as ½ ton of Ready Mix.
Solution Overview:
The Item Maintenance window will be modified so that a Kit item can be created with Quantity Decimals greater than zero.
Design Features:
Item Maintenance Modification
The Item Maintenance window will be modified so that it allows Item Type = KIT and setting the Decimal Quantities field. The Unit of Measure schedule selected will also have to match the Item’s Decimal Quantities setting.
When an existing kit is retrieved, it will display the correct Decimal Quantities, and saving any changes will not cause the field to revert to zero Decimal Quantities.
Assumptions/Requirements:
Testing showed that Sales Transaction Entry will correctly calculate component quantities in a kit when the Kit item and all components had 2 quantity decimals. (All have the same quantity decimals.) This indicates that GP will accept this change and not generate errors elsewhere in the system. However, no functionality will be provided to ensure the quantity decimals match between the Kit item and the components, or account for other error conditions that could arise as a result of allowing the Decimal Quantities to be set.
It is assumed that the Decimal Quantities must match between the Kit item and the components.
Additional system changes can be estimated and added to this design.
