A Tariff Code defines the Tariff Rate and Calculation method for calculating a tariff. After creating a Tariff Code you will assign it to items. Each Item can have an unlimited number of Tariff Codes assigned to it.

The Tariff Code can be a string value, such as CN or MX for a general tariff on all goods from China or Mexico.

The Tariff Code can also be an HTS Code (Harmonized Tariff Schedule Code), such as is shown above. When an HTS Code is used the window will attempt to retrieve information from //hts.usitc.gov/ and display it on the window. If it can retrieve the General Rate it will be automatically set in the Rate field.

REFRESH TARIFF INFO: The REFRESH TARIFF INFO button will refresh the window by requesting an update from the hts.usitc.gov website.

DELETE: Deleting a Tariff Code will remove it from all items to which it is assigned.

BINOCULARS: The BINOCULARS will open the hts.usitc.gov website with the HTS Code loaded.

GP Description

  • This is shown in the Tariff Code Lookup window and is pulled into the SOP Line Tariff Detail table (W7136SOPLineDtl). This can be pulled onto reports.

Calculation Method

  • % Value: calculates the tariff by multiplying the Item Cost (Actual or Standard) by the Rate
  • % Extended Price: calculates the tariff by multiplying the Sales Line Price by the Rate

Rate

  • The Tariff Rate. See the Tariff Calculation section for more details.

Specific Amount and Per Weight

  • Normally this will be specific as a certain dollar amount (i.e. $0.0876) per 1 kg. However, the Per Weight field can be used to express the duty in a different U of M such as pounds, such as $0.0876 per 2.205. The Sales Line Duty is then: $0.0876 * (Sales Line Quantity * (Item Weight in LBS / Per Weight)). See the Tariff Calculation section for more details.
