LabelLink Setup

Navigation: Tools >> Setup >> Company >> Setup LabelLink

IMPORTANT: Review the LabelLink Overview section for important information about filters/restrictions.

Labeler Software: select the labeling software package.

  • Other
  • Wasp Labeler 7 (www.waspbarcode.com)
  • Codesoft 9 (www.teklynx.com)
  • NiceLabel 6 (www.nicelabel.com)
  • BarTender 2016 (www.seagullscientific.com)
  • Automation – There are several labelling software vendors that provide an “automation” component. This is a service that runs unattended and automatically prints labels when new data is added to a table monitored by the service. See the Automation section for more detail.

If you have a different version of Wasp Labeler, Codesoft, NiceLabel or BarTender, you must select OTHER. For example, only select “Codesoft 9” if you have that exact version of the software.

Path to Labeler: Select the labeling software’s executable file ({program}.exe). The typical application path for several common labeling software packages is shown below. This field is not used for Automation.

Wasp Labeler:

      • C:\Program Files (x86)\Wasp Technologies\Labeler\wlab32.exe

Codesoft:

      • C:\Program Files\Teklynx\CODESOFT 2015\CS.exe

NiceLabel: As of the 2017 release of NiceLabel, the software provides a stand-alone printing utility. It is much quicker to print using this utility compared to launching the full NiceLabelDesigner.exe application.

      • C:\Program Files\NiceLabel\NiceLabel 2017\bin.net\NiceLabelPrint.exe

BarTender:

  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Seagull\BarTender Suite\bartend.exe

The “Path to Labeler” is not required, however providing it will ensure LabelLink uses the correct application to open the barcode label for printing. LabelLink will normally use the “default” application that Windows associates with the file type, which is usually the label designer software. In some cases, such as with NiceLabel, the “default” application would be NiceLabelDesigner, but by providing the path to NiceLabelPrint, LabelLink can use a non-default application to print the labels.

IMPORTANT: The Labeler Software and Path To Application settings are stored in the DEX.INI file on the GP Client. They are stored in the two settings shown below:

    • LabelerApp=
    • LabelerPath=

These settings must be entered on each Dynamics GP Client where label printing will occur. You must open the LabelLink Setup window on each GP client where you will print labels and enter the Labeler Software and Path To Application settings.

When the Setup LabelLink window is opened on a GP client, it will check for these two settings in the DEX.INI file. If the settings are present, they will be displayed, as shown above.

If you know how to edit the DEX.INI file, and the GP clients have software installed identically, you can copy the two INI settings above to the DEX.INI file on different GP clients without having to use the Setup window.

User-Label Setup

Each User can have an unlimited number of label formats, such as a label for PO Receiving and a different label for Manufacturing Receipts. When printing labels, the user can choose which label to use, and can reprint labels multiple times using different label formats. For example, there might be one label affixed to each Item, and a separate Label for the Carton containing the Items.

User ID: enter or select a User ID. If you have not already done so, create label reports for each user. This is NOT required when using Automation (the User ID field will be blank and the User ID Lookup will be disabled).

Label Name: enter a description for the label. This description for the label will appear in a drop-down box on the LabelLink window when labels are printed. The Label Names will be sorted in alpha-numeric order, so name the primary or default label in such a way that it will always sort to the top.

One trick to accomplish correct sorting is to use an asterisk (*) as the front of the label name, such as *DEFAULT. You can also number the labels to force correct sorting:

    • 1_Default
    • 2_Serialized Items
    • 3_Office Supplies

File: Click the FOLDER icon and select the label file.

Binoculars: Click the binoculars button to open the label in your label printing software.

Item Labels: Click the blue expansion arrow to open the Item Label Setup window. See the Item Label Setup chapter for more information.

Multiple Company Environments

The setup described above is done PER COMPANY DATABASE. Since the label report will have an ODBC connection to a specific company database, and a label report must have a User ID restriction so that it shows only that user’s labels, you will need a label report for each User-Company combination.
